We have had an incredible week of diving with our clients.  2 baited shark dives produced an amazing amount of blacktip sharks and the odd dusky shark.  We got to see some regulars by way of distinguishing features that they have i.e. broken jaw x 2 and the female with a massive bite around the pre-caudal notch area.  We have had incredible interactions with at least 20 – 30 sharks this week and it has been mind blowing.

On our reef dives, despite an incredibly strong N – S current, we managed to sight 9 raggies at Cathedral with a further 9 milling around on the sand between False Cathedral and Cathedral.  A mixture of males & females were sighted.

On our way out to sea we sighted the most amazing gift in that of a few days old humpback whale calf no more than 2.5m in length and playing around a very protective mom.  What an amazing sight to see and so incredibly cute to see that its head was far larger than anything else that we could see.

Today we spent time with the sardine run – yes we have had the most incredible run this year with netters now netting off the Durban beach area for the last 3 weeks.  The visibility today was top to bottom i.e. you could see the bottom from the top and vice versa and the sardines were just hanging there in massive, massive shoals.  They are the largest natal sardines that i have seen and incredibly fat and healthy with no action around them at all.  It almost appears that they are just waiting to be netted.  Insane stuff.  What a year it has been this year with the sardines along the KZN coast and the netters have made a small fortune.

Incredible diving of late, despite August being our windy month and absolutely incredible sightings.  Wow!!!!!!!!
