5 shark species in just 2 days!!

Posted on Posted in Sightings

Well what can we say………………….we have had the absolute privilege of 5 shark species in just 2 days of diving.  Here is how it goes…………..Yesterday, raggies @ Landers on the reef dive.  2 Zambezi (Bull) sharks & 15 blacktips on the baited dive.

Today’s reef dive at Cathedral produced 12 raggies in the amphitheatre, 3 males and the rest females.  On our baited dive………………we had 2 tiger sharks, one measuring 4m and the other a smaller female, 1 dusky shark and around 20 blacktip sharks.  The larger 4m tiger shark showed up 12 minutes into the dive and remained throughout the dive, coming in to have a closer look at us, paying a bit of attention to the bait drum and generally hanging around to take a better look.  The smaller tiger shark came in and had a few looks and then disappeared.  The dusky shark hung around for the entire dive and of course our gorgeous blacktip sharks always steal the show don’t they!!  What an unreal dive!!!!

On our way home, we encountered an entire family of humpback whales, what looked like mom & Dad an adolescent and a calf.

We got a large pod of bottlenose dolphins just behind backline just to round everything off.

What a spectacular day it has been!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! our waters are warming up and we can expect more regular sightings now of tiger sharks as summer approaches.  What a place this is!!!!   Where are you?
